Tom & Julie Highley
1. How did you come up with your booth name?
We coined the name "Highley Vintage" as a play off of our last name. Highley is the name of a small town in England but again it's our family name. Some people think we've misspelled the adverb "highly", which makes me laugh.
2. How long have you been a vendor?
We have been vendors at the mall for the past five years. We started out in one of the small booths, moved to two, then three. We were approached about being an achor store for the mall about two years ago and business has really picked up since then.
3. How would you describe your merchandise?
The merchandise we collect and sell is mid-century modern. The furniture and the collectibles that we sell are very popular right now. In fact, you see that style on television all of the time. We like to think of that style as iconic.
4. What do you like best about Riverside Centre Antique Mall?
What I like best about Riverside is the sense of community among the dealers. Everyone is very supportive and helpful. Really, it's like a big family.
5. What is your favorite thing about the vintage business?
Beyond the awesome people and traveling to pick I would say is the sense of adventure. You really have to educate yourself to know when you've found a diamond in the rough. I have to say, however, that being able to share a hobby I love with my beautiful wife is the best part.
